Washing Tricks (Part 1)

Saying goodbye to our favourite clothes that we had a good day is a bit of bad luck. Although that day will inevitably happen to most of the clothes, the good news is that it can be postponed by taking more care of them and doing some tricks! We all know something about washing clothes. But generally, our information is limited to a few typical cases, such as separating white and coloured clothes. There are many tricks to washing clothes more accessible and faster. Stay tuned for the rest of the article to learn about laundry tricks.

The softness of fluffy towels

Vinegar and soda! Add these two elements to the detergent and use half the recommended solution.

Ironing pants or shirts

Suppose you don’t have time to iron your pants or shirt; hang them in the bathroom. When you shower, water vapour will effortlessly remove wrinkles from your clothes.

Loosen tight jackets

Did your favourite jacket shrink and tighten while washing? Soak it in a hair conditioner and warm water, then gently return it to its original size. You can also soak the jacket in water and baby shampoo. Then gently pull the fibres to the sides.

Eliminate dandruff stains on clothes

Dandruff stains on your pants make it look bad. Use a soft bristle brush to remove stains. Then soak the pants in a tablespoon of white vinegar in warm water and apply a sponge on the remaining dandruff stains. After completing these steps, wash the pants as usual and dry them in the open air.

Rain and snow salts

Salts left by rain and snow can damage the leather. To extend their textiles life, gently dip the leather in a solution of water and vinegar to remove dandruff and salt from the surface. You may need to repeat this method several times to separate all the salt from the fibres.

Having a soft towel

When washing the towel, remove the drying step and use the softener to keep the towel soft for a longer time. Then dry the towel in the open air. Using vinegar and soda instead of detergent makes the old towels soft again.

Reduce wrinkles on clothes

Using a tennis ball in the dryer reduces wrinkles on clothes. Baby shampoo or conditioner can smooth out your wrinkled clothes and restore them to their original size. Add a baby shampoo to the hot tub and let the clothes soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, rinse and dry it thoroughly. The fabric softener smoothes the clothes and restores them to their original size. Also, if you don’t want to get your clothes wrinkled from the washing machine, just put some ice cubes in the detergent to open the wrinkles while washing.

Stabilise the clothes colour

Fix the clothes colour with these tricks:

  • Instead of using bleach, use hand washing powder in the wash.
  • Use salt in the washing to stabilise the colour of the clothes.
  • Turn them upside down and then wash them.

Prevent clothes deformation

To prevent the deformation of woollen clothes and sweaters, don’t hang them. Spread them on a flat surface to dry.

Reduce drying time

Reduce clothes drying time by placing a towel in the dryer.

Eliminate the foul smell of denim clothes

Put denim in the freezer once a month to eliminate the smell of bacteria.

Reduce ironing time

Pull an aluminium foil on the ironing board cover to reduce your ironing time by half.

Remove grease stains from clothes.

Squeeze a large lemon on your workout clothes. It will remove grease stains on clothes and leave a fresh and clean scent.

Maintenance of winter shoes

Winter makes your favourite shoes rough. You can use a scented soap and a damp sponge in a circular motion on the shoes to keep them clean and maintained for a long time during the winter.

Soften clothes

Soften the clothes by adding half a cup of white vinegar to the laundry. Vinegar in the distillation process naturally softens the fabric.

Eliminate the foul smell of the washing machine

Does the washing machine smell bad?  Rinse it with vinegar and fizzy drinks to eliminate the bad smell.

Wash clothes quickly

Consider separate baskets to separate coloured or white clothes, sheets and towels. Never delay washing clothes for more than a week. Germs and bacteria in dirty clothes can change the texture of the fabric and make it harder to remove some stains over time.
