Velvet is a very popular and vulnerable fabric and its clothes have their fans. it’s a type of fabric that is used in various models of men’s and women’s clothing. You know that velvet fabric is more vulnerable than ordinary fabric and you have to follow some tips to take care of it. Washing this fabric is always one of the concerns of its fans. When washing, we must be careful about its soft surface. Rubbing velvet fabric will damage its texture. To maintain it, we must consider the points that we will mention in the following while explaining the method of washing it. The following method is one of the best ways to wash velvet with the least amount of damage to the fabric. So stay tuned.
Wash velvet fabric by hand
Although washing velvet cloth by hand takes more effort, it does less damage to the velvet. So it’s better to join us step by step!
Turn the clothes inside out
Before doing anything, it’s better to turn the clothes inside out. Because the soft surface of the velvet fabric doesn’t interact with the surroundings and is less damaged. If you wash the velvet cloth without turning it inside out (for both hand washing and washing machine), the soft surface will be damaged due to friction with your hand, other clothes or the body of the washing machine. After a while, you will find that you no longer have the velvet you had when you bought it.
Two tablespoons of detergent!
It’s better to use mild liquid detergents to wash velvet. Also, don’t use a large amount of detergent. Only two or three tablespoons of washing liquid are enough. Excessive foam not only doesn’t clean the clothes but also makes the dirt hard to remove from the clothes and the clothes remain dirty. Pour a very small amount of it into a sink of cold water and put the clothes in the water.
Water temperature
Almost high-temperature water reduces the life of all different types of fabric and damages its texture. In the case of velvet, high-temperature water is even more harmful. Use cold water for washing. If your clothes are very dirty, use lukewarm water.
Washing
Rubbing velvet fabric isn’t the right way to remove stains and dirt. Although your clothes may be very clean, the soft surface of the velvet fabric will be removed. Gently tap the velvet to remove dirt and grime.
Rinse
Velvet absorbs a lot of foam. so after washing, rinse the clothes thoroughly and delicately, making sure that all the foam is removed from the clothes. Velvet fabrics with long, voluminous lint take on a large amount of foam when washed. Rinse with cold water and make sure the foams are finished. If you rinse other clothes once, do this for velvet two to three times.
Drying velvet
Avoid hanging velvet because it’s formed soon. Although you can put the velvet cloth on the clothing line after washing, as you know the place of the clothespin clamps remains on the velvet and the volume of the part under the clamp changes. we suggest spreading the damp cloth on a flat surface and waiting. Until completely dry.
Washing velvet in the washing machine
If you plan to use a washing machine to wash velvet cloth, we recommend using an adjustable one. A machine that can adjust the speed, time and temperature of the water. Keep the temperature of water, liquid and washing machine speed to a minimum.
Only velvet!
It’s better to wash velvet clothes together and don’t throw other ones in the washing machine. Also, put a small number of clothes in the washing machine. This method will minimize the damage to the fabric.
Pour the liquid
As mentioned before, liquid detergent is the best choice to use in washing velvet fabrics. Especially since some detergents don’t dissolve well in water due to their poor quality. Finally, after washing the velvet fabric, you will notice that the white dots of the detergent powder remain in the soft texture of the velvet.
One round is enough
Don’t wash velvet clothes too much. Set the washing machine to a short cycle and make sure the washing machine isn’t going to turn the velvet clothes a lot.
Remove velvet from very soon.
When you have finished washing the velvet cloth in the washing machine, quickly remove the clothes and spread them on a flat clean surface as soon as possible. If you are late, the clothes will wrinkle and this isn’t good for velvet fabric at all.
