How to Remove Mud Stains From Clothes (Part 2)

When it rains and all our clothes get muddy, or when the kids go out to play and come home muddy, they all think of one thing, and that is how to wash these clothes without damaging the clothes and removed the mud stains from them. This situation gets worse when your clothes are white or light. It’s a fact that we can’t always keep our clothes clean without getting dirty. There are simple but very practical solutions to make our lives easier but at the same time keep our clothes clean and healthy. In the first part, we explain some of these practical tips for cleaning mud stains, here we’re going to continue them and discuss more detail.

Cleaning mud and dirt stains with vinegar and salt

If stains remain on clothes after repeated use of detergent, you can use other methods:

  • Mix a cup of white vinegar and three tablespoons of salt and apply them to the stains.
  • Leave the vinegar and salt mixture on the clothes for about an hour.
  • Then wash your clothes with cold water.
  • After rinsing, wash it once in the washing machine with detergent.

Removing mud stains from “laundry only” clothes

  • If you come across the phrase “laundry only” on the label for your clothes care and washing instructions, remove all solid mud additions with a knife or spoon. Allow the remaining mud to dry and then wipe it off the clothes with a soft brush. If the mud stains aren’t very large, you can use some laundry detergent to remove the stain.
  • If the mud stain is large, it’s better to visit a reputable dry cleaner as soon as possible. Show them exactly on the clothes where the stain is and when it was created. Mentioning the time of staining is important in terms of the fact that laundry staff can decide on the kind of solvent and how strong should be.

Cleaning mud on carpets and slipcovers

  • When the mud trace reaches the carpet, you should immediately remove all solid additives from it so that it doesn’t sink further between the fibres of the carpet. Then let the mud dry. Now use a vacuum cleaner to remove as much dry soil as possible from the carpet fibres.
  • Next, make a mixture of two teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and two cups of cold water. Use a white cloth, sponge or soft brush to spread the material over the mud stain. Gently wipe the cloth soaked in detergent and remove it to allow soil particles to adhere to it. Clean the area with water to remove any soapy detergent residue. The remaining even a small amount of detergent on the carpet will absorb more dirt.
  • If the mud spilled on the carpet had a red colour and changed the colour of the carpet, prepare a mixture containing oxygen bleach and water. Refer to the instructions on the package label for the material ratio. Apply the cleaning compound on the stain and let it stay for at least an hour, then gently place the towel on it to remove the stain material from the carpet.
  • Now let the carpet dry in the open air away from heat or direct sunlight. Vacuum the carpet so that the fibres of this part return to their previous state.
  • Staining solutions and recommended products for removing carpet stains can be used in the same way to remove mud stains from slipcovers. Don’t wet the covers too much as they won’t dry easily. This will lead to the formation of fungus and mould and as a result damage to the fabric and foam of the sofa, as well as environmental pollution. If your slipcover is made of silk or antique fabric, be sure to consult a laundry specialist to avoid damage during stain removal.

When washing your clothes, be sure to use effective detergent products. As a result, don’t worry about your children playing with dirt anymore and let them enjoy their entertainment completely. Just the small amount of water that turns ordinary soil into mud causes dirt particles and stains to penetrate deeper into the fibres of the garment.
