Baking soda

If the alcohol doesn’t remove the stain, apply baking soda to the stain with an old brush or toothbrush to lighten the stain little by little. Then wash the cloth with detergent.

Toothpaste

If your clothes are stained with lipstick, apply toothpaste to the stain and then wash the clothes thoroughly.

Soap

To remove the effect of lipstick stain, wash it with a mild detergent such as soap. If it doesn’t clear, and the effect remains, use other cleaners.

Hair spray

Apply hair spray on the stain and a quarter later wash it with soap and water to remove all trace of lipstick remains on the clothes.

Cleaning solutions

Use various cleaning solutions such as liquid detergents, alcohol, and ammonia to dissolve grease. To use these solutions, wipe the lipstick stain with a clean damp cloth, then use your solution and wash it according to the label on the clothes. Be careful never to use ammonia on wool or silk.

Dishwashing Liquid

Pour a small amount of dishwashing liquid on the stain and then rub it with a cloth. Rinse with cold water. Repeat this step to remove the stain altogether.

Removing lipstick from different places

Washable fabrics

You can clean lipstick stains on common fabrics such as cotton or polyester clothing, jeans or even a sweater in the following ways:

If the stain is fresh, clean it with white bread or white play-dough. Before the lipstick stain penetrates the fabric, the bread or dough will absorb the lipstick stain. If the stain is fresh but wet, use one of the following methods. Repeat the test procedures until the lipstick stain is removed.

  • Apply some hair spray on the lipstick stain and let it stay for a few minutes. After removing the stain, wash the clothes to remove the hair spray.
  • Apply some vegetable oil to the lipstick stain. Leave the oil on the stain for about half an hour. Then rub some toilet liquid on it and wash the clothes as usual. You can also use WD-40 spray instead of oil, but the difference with the vegetable oil method is that it should stay on the stain for only about ten minutes.
  • Rub some alcohol on the stain with a sponge to remove the stain.
  • Apply some hand sanitiser or shampoo on the lipstick stain, then wash it off as usual.
  • Apply the enzyme cleaner to the stain, leave it for half an hour, and finally wash it.

If the stain is old and dry, follow the steps below.

  • Gently scrape the stain with a knife to remove excess lipstick that has dried on clothes as much as possible.
  • Then rub some alcohol on it with a sponge.
  • Now wash clothes with dishwashing liquid as usual.

Woollen cloth

Wool is a unique and washable fabric that needs a particular method when cleaning stains. For example, you shouldn’t use alcohol, hair spray, hand sanitiser, ammonia, chlorine bleach and enzymatic detergents on wool. Instead, apply a little shampoo or washing powder to the stain and then wash as usual. If the stain remains despite the use of shampoo and powder, leave it in a dry cleaner laundry nearby.

Silk Cloth

  • Stick a piece of adhesive tape on the lipstick stain. Please don’t press it a lot, as it can penetrate the lipstick to the cloth more than before. Gently stick the adhesive tape on the lipstick stain and then remove it from the fabric to clean the lipstick stain with it.
  • If some of this stain remains on the fabric, pour some absorbent powder such as baking soda or cornstarch on it. Then, let this powder stay on the stain for a few minutes. Repeat this process until the stain is completely removed.

Leather

  • Apply some white bread or white play dough to the lipstick stain.
  • Remove the stain with some alcohol and a cloth.
  • Use a leather cleaner to remove the remnants of lipstick stains on it.

Suede fabric

  • Rub some white bread on the stain.
  • Pour some baking soda or salt on it. Leave this powder on the stain for a few hours, then brush it. This process can be repeated several times if needed.
  • If there are still stains on the fabric despite the previous steps, pour a few drops of alcohol on a cloth and test it on a hidden spot on the garment to make sure that the colour of your suede fabric isn’t damaged by it. If the alcohol hasn’t hurt the material, apply it to the lipstick stain and continue until the stain is gone.
  • If alcohol isn’t suitable for this type of clothing or damages your cloth, use a mixture of equal amounts of water and white vinegar to clean the lipstick instead.
  • If the stain hasn’t yet been completely removed, you can clean the area with a dry towel or use a suede wash brush.

Furniture fabric

If the stain on the sofa is fresh, clean it with white bread or white play-dough. These materials will absorb the stain before penetrating the fabric. If the stain is older, start by shaving the stain with a spoon and then use one of the following methods.

  • Rub the sponge soaked in alcohol on the stain until it’s completely removed. When the sofa lipstick is transferred to the cloth, rotate the fabric to a clean area, so the sofa doesn’t get dirty again.
  • Apply some hair spray on the lipstick stain until it’s completely wet on the stain. Let the hair spray stay on the lipstick stain for a few minutes. Then wipe the stained area with clean sponge water and then dry it.
  • Apply shaving cream or soap scum to the stain and gently wipe it off with a cloth.

Carpet

Whether the stain is fresh or old, scrape it as much as possible with a spoon and then use one of the following methods. If necessary, continue the test procedures until the stain is removed.

  • Pour some alcohol on a cloth and wipe the stain with it. When the lipstick is transferred to the fabric, rotate the material to a clean area.
  • Apply some carpet cleaner to the lipstick stain. Let the cleaner stay on the stain for about a minute, then gently wipe the stained area with a paper towel so that the cleaner is entirely off the carpet surface.
  • If the stain is stubborn, combine one part white vinegar with two parts water. Wipe the stained area with this sponge mixture, then wipe the liquid off the carpet.

Ceramic cup

  • Pour a little salt on a damp cloth, then rub it on the remaining lipstick.
  • If the stain remains, wipe it off with alcohol.

Glass cup

you can remove lipstick stains on glass cups or other glassware such as mirrors with dishwashing liquid. If the stain is still there, pour a little alcohol on a cloth and apply it to the stain.

Inside the washing machine

If your lipstick remains in your pocket while washing, it will probably soften during the washing process and stain the inside of the washing machine and dryer. Don’t worry; it’s relatively easy to clean.

  • Pour a little salt, baking soda or multi-purpose cleansing powder on a damp cloth. If you don’t have any of these substances, you can use some white (non-gel) toothpaste instead.
  • Clean the stained area with this powder.
  • Use a damp cloth to rinse the dryer.
