How to Remove Ink Stains From Fabrics? (Part 2)

In the previous part, we talked about removing ink stains from clothes and fabrics. Any wrong method can make this stain worse. The method of removing each stain depends on the type of fabric. In the previous part, we said that there are three types of inks based on oil, water-based and alcohol-based. We have already explained how to remove ink stains from linen, wool, polyester and nylon clothes. In this section, we will discuss the rest of the important points for stain removal.

Wipe the ink off the cotton thread

Spray a little hair spray on the cotton thread to loosen the ink stain. Then soak the spot for 30 minutes in a solution of 1.2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon of diluted white vinegar in 1 litre of water (first test this solution on a point out of sight in clothing to avoid damaging the paint). Rinse the stain and let it dry. If stains remain, soak an absorbent cloth in alcohol and press on the stain. If the stain is transferred to the fabric, replace it with butter and repeat this process. After removing the stain, wipe off the alcohol with a damp cloth and then dry the clothes in the open air.

Sportswear and spandex

To remove ink from sportswear and spandex, first, try the suggested method in the hidden corner or seam of the dress to make sure the colour of the dress isn’t damaged. Apply the stain to the back of the glass and gradually rub the alcohol on it. Use the glass to collect the ink dissolved in the alcohol. Rinse the stain, dry it in the open air and finally wash it off. If necessary, you can use bleach that is compatible with coloured clothes. Before the final drying of the clothes, make sure that the ink stain is removed.

Knitwear

To remove the ink from the washable yarn, first, soak the stain for 30 minutes in a solution of 1.2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon of diluted white vinegar in 1 litre of water. Then rinse the fabric and dry it in the open air. If stains remain, clean the ink stain area with alcohol (first test the alcohol on the spot out of sight to make sure the colour of the garment isn’t damaged). Rinse the clothes again and wash according to the instructions. Make sure the ink is clean before final drying.

Silk

To remove ink from silk, cover the stain with a paper towel as soon as possible. You can use a cloth soaked in plain water to hit the spot. If the stain remains, spray some hairspray on the area and continue tapping with a damp cloth until the stain is removed. Finish by pressing a cloth soaked in warm water. You can also dip a soft toothbrush in a 50/50 water and white vinegar solution and gently brush the stain. Then clean the stain with a damp cloth and dry it in the open air.

Velvet

Be sure to check the instructions on the clothing label before removing the ink from the velvet. To remove oily ink stains from washable velvet, first, soak it in a solution of 1.2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon of diluted white vinegar in 1 litre of water for 30 minutes. Then rinse the stain and dry it in the open air. If stains remain, clean the ink stain area with alcohol (first test the alcohol on the spot out of sight to make sure the colour of the garment isn’t damaged). Rinse the clothes again and wash according to the instructions. Before the final drying of the clothes, make sure that the ink stain is removed.

Speed of action is critical to clean these stains. Because ink stains are quickly absorbed by the fabric and are challenging to clean once established, another important tip is never to wipe the stain with a cloth or paper towel, as this will spread the ink stain.
