23 Aug How to Unshrink Clothes Quickly and Easily (Part 2)
In the first part, we explained the method of unshrinking clothes using baby shampoo. We said that you need baby shampoo or conditioner, a bowl of lukewarm water, and some towels for this method. All you have to do is follow the rules and details mentioned before to open the texture of your clothes and return them to their previous size. In this section, we will explain the second method to unshrink clothes using vinegar. So you can choose the best, easiest and fastest one for your clothes.
Unshrink sweater and knitted clothes
One of the unfortunate things that can happen to our favourite sweater or wool jacket is that it shrinks. Many people become frustrated with their knitwear after this incident and throw it away, or at best, the knitwear turns into a duster. But in this economic situation where the price of a sweater or other clothes is higher than expected, it’s better to clean your clothes completely. The method we introduce in this article may revitalize your garment; however, if the fibres of the clothes aren’t natural or you don’t know their materials, leave it to a skilled laundry expert and no longer worry about your favourite woven garment.
The second method: using vinegar
This method is suitable for clothes with fibres of animal origin (such as wool and cashmere). Cotton fibres can also be unshrunk with this method, but absolutely don’t try clothes with dense natural and synthetic fibres (such as silk and rayon) with vinegar!
first step
Pour enough lukewarm water into a sink to soak clothes. Hot or cold water will damage the fibres of your clothes during the procedure.
second step
Add one or two tablespoons (15 to 30 cc) of white vinegar to the water per litre of water. Because vinegar is a powerful cleanser, applying it directly to clothing will damage your clothes and must be diluted beforehand. Therefore, don’t add vinegar before soaking clothes in water.
third step
After soaking the clothes in water for about 30 minutes, gently pull them under the water in different directions. Then let it soak for another 5 minutes. Now take the clothes out and gently press to remove the excess water. You don’t need to rinse it yet. Let the vinegar stay on the clothes’ fibre until the steps are completed.
Fourth step
Put a few towels in the form of crumbs inside the clothes to keep their shape. This helps avoid pulling the fibres by hand and is useful for clothes with fine fibres. Just make sure the surface of the garment is relatively flat and even. The bulge caused by the uneven shrinkage and crumpling of the towels makes the shape of that garment change inconsistently with the rest of the fabric. In addition, these towels help the clothes to dry faster.
Fifth step
Let the towels stay in the clothes for 30 minutes. If you can add more towels to the clothes, you will get better and faster results. While drying, check the shape of the fabric and do it if it needs to be slightly smoothed or pulled by hand.
Sixth step
Now it’s time to take the towels out of the clothes, hang them from a hanger or clothesline, and swing in the open air away from direct sunlight. After drying, if you feel that the fabric texture isn’t as soft as before, wash it normally with cold water. For clothes, you’re worried about changing shape by hanging, spread them on a towel to dry. If your clothes don’t completely unshrink with the above steps, repeat them several more times.
It often happens that a garment after washing is smaller than before. You can never stop clothes from shrinking. However, you can loosen the fibres of these garments enough to return them to their original shape. Here are some steps you can take to unshrink clothes. These days, with NeatEx, not only can you get your clothes clean and tidy safely, but also save your time and money.
