24 Mar How to Remove Hair Dye Stains? (Part 1)

Many women love hair dye to be more attractive. But if your hairdresser is careless or you dye your hair yourself at home, a few drops of hair dye may fall on your clothes or home appliances. Clearing this stain looks like a nightmare. If hair dye spill on clothes or carpets, makes them dirty and usually the stain is hard to remove. So you have to start cleaning it very soon. If you ignore these hair dye stains, you may not be able to remove them easily. You must remove the stain before washing your clothes. But don’t worry!  You can find some solutions for this problem in this article.

Removing hair colour stains from leather

You dye your hair and wait for the necessary time to pass and sit on the leather sofa for a few minutes. Suddenly you notice that you have painted your favourite leather sofa. The best way to remove paint stains on leather is to act quickly. Get started and proceed according to one of the following methods:

• Apply some toothpaste on the stain and gently rub it on the stain with a soft brush, then wipe it off.
• Apply some polish remover (without acetone) on a cotton cloth and rub on the stain.
• Use the hair spray on the stain with a damp cloth until it disappears completely.
• Dip a cloth into a mixture of dishwashing liquid and warm water. Then rub vigorously to remove stains.

Removing hair dye from fabric

As soon as you notice that you have dyed the fabric, quickly wash the stain with powder or strong washing liquid containing enzymes, but removing the stain from the fabric depends on the tonnage of the dye:

Black, brown and blue hair dye stains

• Fill the sink with cold water and oxygenated water. Put the cloth in it and let it soak for at least eight hours. Then rinse the cloth. If the stain persistently remains on the fabric, there’s another solution, provided that the fabric is white.
• Mix water with a quarter of the bleach and let the cloth soak in the solution for 15 minutes (no more). Note that if the fabric stays in this solution for a long time, its fibres will become thin and torn.

Red and wine hair dye stains

Try one of the following two methods:

• Mix a quarter of a cup of water, a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and a teaspoon of plain non-flammable ammonia. Soak the stain in this solution for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove the cloth and rub the stain together to remove the stain. Then soak in the solution for another 15 minutes and carefully rinse the fabric so that nothing of the solution remains on the fabric.
• In another container, mix a quarter of warm water with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Place the stain in this solution for 30 minutes and then rinse.

Tip: Before performing all these steps, pay attention to the label on the clothes or fabric. None of these steps are allowed if the clothes have a dry cleaning label.

Tip: Never mix ammonia with oxygenated water and bleach. Because this mixture leads to the production of toxic gases.

Solvents

Bleach

The best way to remove hair dye stains from white clothes is bleach. To remove this stain, soak the clothes in a solution of water and bleach for at least eight hours. Then wash it with regular detergents and dry. The stain on the white cloth may be removed much later and you will have to repeat this method.

Vinegar

White vinegar or apple cider vinegar can help remove hair dye stains from clothes and prevent them from spreading. Mix one cup of vinegar and one cup of water. Then use it to remove as much stain as possible. Now soak the clothes in warm water for 20 to 30 minutes and then wash them.

Hydrogen peroxide and bleach

You can remove hair dye stains by soaking clothes in a solution of water and oxygenated water for a few hours, but for white clothes, you can use bleach. Because bleach spoils coloured clothes.

Enzymatic detergents

Enzymatic detergents are suitable for removing any stains from clothes. To remove hair dye stains, put the fabric in a solution of water and detergent. After a while, remove the stain with a toothbrush that fits the texture of the fabric. Then wash the cloth with ordinary detergents and rinse.
