Removing Vomit Stains from Clothes (Part 2)

Vomit stains are very uncomfortable and unavoidable and may be caused by children or sick people on clothes or carpets. In the previous part, we explained how to remove fresh and dried stains. We said that the best way to remove them is as soon as they form. In this section, we will describe how to clean these annoying stains on the carpet, slipcovers and remove the bad smell of vomit.

Eliminating the bad smell of clothes

Vomiting has a very bad and pungent odour and may not go away easily. It’s even possible for the stain and its effects to disappear completely, but the smell is still there and therefore the clothes can no longer be used. To prevent it, it’s better to proceed before the washing process and eliminate the odour as much as possible with absorbent substances. These absorbents are some powder such as baking soda, salt or baby powder. When the stain is still fresh, pour this powder on it and when the powder becomes wet and pasty, remove it and repeat if necessary. For extra safety, you can pour a little fabric softener into the washing machine when washing to eliminate the remaining bad odour. Don’t forget that such clothes shouldn’t be washed with other clothes in the washing machine as they may smell too.

Removing vomit stains from carpets

  • Wear appropriate clothing and gloves so that your clothes don’t get dirty during the cleaning process. Gloves prevent hand odour.
  • Leave all doors and windows open to ventilate the house.
  • Use a tissue or paper towel to remove solid parts of the vomit and put it in the trash. Don’t wash these wipes in the washing machine as the material inside them may stick to the clothes.
  • Pour some absorbent material such as salt, baking powder, cornstarch or carpet deodorant in the desired section and leave for 15 minutes. It will cause the vomit to rise from the carpet fibre.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner to remove other debris.
  • You can use carpet shampoo to clean the dirty place.
  • Clean stains with a damp, clean cloth. Don’t rub the cloth on the floor as it will cause vomit to enter the carpet fibres.
  • Let the part you cleaned stay overnight and dry naturally.
  • Even if you have cleaned the carpet well and the room is well ventilated, the nasty smell of induction may persist. If the odour was too strong, go through the steps again.
  • The dirty part on the carpet can be completely cleaned using a steam cleaner. Steam is very effective in killing bacteria and germs that cause bad odour.
  • You can also use some disinfectants to ensure complete cleanliness.
  • Use a carpet deodorant to spray on the desired area; You can also use citrus oil, tea tree oil or lavender oil to clean the carpet from any bad odour.
